Consider: Creative Viewpoints
Ayala Museum DesignTalks
What’s involved: Lecture series highlighting the excellence of the Filipino designer in various creative fields. Previous talks featured noted designers such as Kenneth Cobonpue (furniture), Ed Calma (architecture), Rajo Laurel (fashion), Jason Magbanua (videography), and Wini Camacho (automobile design). The Museum regularly organizes these DesignTalks, around one per quarter.
How it works: Listen to the trade secrets, industry insider tips, and even pep talks from established design professionals. “We give them the freedom to present what they want,” says Marie Julienne B. Ente, Museum Services Associate, “but normally the program includes a presentation of their portfolio, anecdotes on how they got into design, and stories of personal and professional growth.”
Who’s eligible: Though people from the creative industry would clearly benefit from such talks, college students and even young professionals may find that the lectures can pique their interest in certain creative fields. After the lecture, the audience may ask the designer further questions during the forum.
